Competitions and awards for 2005/06 will be as follows:- 1. Three Seasonal Competitions (Autumn, Winter, Spring) 2. League Cups (an extension of the Seasonal competitions) 3. Category Trophies (an integral part of the League competition) 4. Cameron Cup Competition 5. Annual Cups Competition Apart from the major awards, which require to be returned for future years, the best three prints and slides in each seasonal competition will receive a special label. Beyond these, 'merit' certificates may also be awarded at the end of the season. Apart from Club competitions, interclub competitions are arranged throughout the season the rules for which will be arranged with the participating clubs.
COMPETITION RULES1. Competitions are open to all paid up members of the club. 2. Entries must be the member's own work and may take the form of prints or slides in black and white or colour. To encourage novices prints may be any size from 7 inches by 5 inches upwards. All prints must be submitted mounted. While processing by members is encouraged, both prints and slides may be commercially processed. 3. Up to three prints and/or four slides may be entered by each member in each club competition. The Cameron Cup Competition has additional requirements (please see the relevant section). 4. Mounted prints and slides must be identified by the entrant's membership number only (in the case of prints by a suitable label on the back). Both prints and slides should have a title added, but will not lose merit if none is provided. Slides must be properly "spotted" - bottom left hand corner when viewed the right way round. 5. Entries for competitions should be prepared in good time and brought to the club on or before the hand-in date specified in the syllabus. Entry slips should be completed (including categories) separately for prints and slides, and passed with the photographs to the Competition Secretary (or person acting in his place) by being placed in a relevant box or as otherwise instructed. NO late or misdirected entries will be accepted. 6. Judging of members' work will result in an award of marks out of 20. Normally external judges are chosen from the SPF-approved list, but occasionally either one of the Club's own SPF-listed judges or a panel of several Club members may be asked to judge. 7. Members may mark "Beginner" on any competition entries if they feel they fall into this category. This will encourage judges to offer more constructive criticisms (but not extra points). Generally, any member who has completed more than two full seasons of membership is no longer regarded as a beginner. The Competition Secretary should be consulted if in doubt. The latter may consider making a special award in any competition in the case of the best or any exceptional entry by a beginner. 8. League CupsThe purpose of this competition is to recognise the merits of the work of members entering the three seasonal competitions throughout the season. The seasonal competitions are usually open theme (i.e. author's own choice of subject) unless otherwise specified. The two highest scoring prints and/or slides entered by members in each seasonal competition will be recorded for participation in the annual League awards. The member with the highest points total at the end of the three seasonal competitions will win the relevant League trophy. To ensure an effective League competition, members are asked to enter as many of the relevant seasonal competitions as possible. Work entered in seasonal competitions may only be entered once, though may also be entered in the Annual Cups Competition. 9. Category TrophiesThese are an integral part of the League awards. Trophies will be awarded to the members gaining the highest scores in each of the following three categories : Portrait, Sport and Natural History/Landscape. Members who wish to compete for these trophies must identify their entries within the appropriate category. In addition, there are trophies for the best beginner in both print and slide categories. In the event of entrants having the same points totals, a "countback" system will be used to select the overall winner. A league table of the running totals achieved by all members in the seasonal/league competitions will be on display in the club throughout the session. Members will be asked to allow prints gaining high marks (18-20) to remain on display in the club throughout the session (unless required for other competitions). 10. Cameron Cup CompetitionThis competition will be judged on panels of three slides and/or three prints. Prints or slides entered for other club competitions are excluded. They must relate to one common theme of the author's choice, but if both slides and prints are entered a separate theme for each type is permissible. Each member's trio of prints or slides will be judged as an integral panel.11. Annual Cups CompetitionEntries for this year-end competition (up to three prints and/or four slides) may include items entered in any other club competitions in the session. Single overall winners in print and slide categories will be chosen and receive appropriate trophies.
