The Club has a friendship agreement with Fotoclub Hückelhoven in Kreis Heinsberg, Germany. Midlothian is twinned with Kreis Heinsberg, and the arrangement between the two clubs has arisen from this.

The first practical result of this agreement was a joint exhibition between our two clubs. Fotoclub Hückelhoven holds regular exhibitions each year, and Midlothian Camera Club was invited to join their 2000/2001 exhibition called "Klangbilder" - all the pictures to be on the theme of music.

We sent 30 pictures to Germany to be part of the exhibition, and they reciprocated by sending us 30 of theirs. The joint exhibition opened in the Alten Rathaus Ratheim, Hückelhoven-Ratheim on 31 October 2000 where it was on display for a week before moving on to several other venues over the succeeding months.

The Scottish twin of the exhibition (under the title "Spirit of Music") opened in the Dalkeith Art Centre on 6 February 2001 for one week, then moved to the exhibition hall at the Mining Museum at Newtongrange, and was subsequently on display at several of the Midlothian libraries during March.

As this proved to be so successful another joint exhibition in 2002/3 on the theme "Earth, Fire & Water" took place, again with parallel displays in Scotland and in Germany. A third joint exhibition opened in October 2003 in Scotland, to be followed by May 2004 in Germany, on the theme "Man-made". The fourth exhibition on the theme "Close up" will appear in 2005/6.

Fuller details of these exhibitions and links to the images shown may be found here.
